This is the coon bait that was developed by Ron Hansen, and the same one that is used by “Red” on his coon long-lines in Southwest Iowa. Its use is covered extensively in “Red’s” coon book. It has taken thousands of coon over the years. For several years, “Red” helped Ron prepare the bait in Ron’s shop in Brayton, Iowa. This is a sweet smelling paste bait with a fish base. It is very sticky! This means you can put the bait wherever you want to. It will stick to a bridge abutment, a steel culvert, a log, or anywhere you want to smear it. Fish is a good coon and mink bait in pockets, but when you are speed setting for coon under bridges and near culverts, this bait is the way to go. Just smear some on the bridge abutment and bed your trap in the proper location and you’re done. It is very versatile. Good on Slap and Go, Punch Ins, or Pocket Sets. Also use this bait with a big piece of fish in bait buckets late in the season. Keep bait frozen until your season starts, and then thaw for use on the trapline.
